The second annual Operation Prom Dress is planned for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15 at Central State University's Dayton campus, 840 Germantown St. in Dayton's Wright-Dunbar neighborhood.
The reason for the event is simple.
"A lot of girls can't afford prom dresses," said Dionna Walker, founder of Dionna Helping Hands.
The small group provides clothing, furniture, diapers and other items to those in need.

Walker said all types of formal dresses are sought, including age-appropriate bridesmaid dresses.
“You’d be surprised what these young girls can do to make these dresses to their liking,” she added.

The dresses are free, but there is one requirement for the day.

A parent must attend the event, which includes a free makeup session and fingernail painting.

Dresses can be dropped off 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at the Dionna Helping Hands distribution center, 11 Stout Street in downtown Dayton.
Walker recently launched the A Risen Queen clothing line. T-shirts are $15, and $5 benefits Dionna Helping Hands.
