Some of Dayton's most beloved businesses are ready for big kid bikes.

Ghostlight Coffee and Jimmie's Ladder 11 in the South Park neighborhood are among the independently-owned Dayton businesses turning 5 years old.

Shane Anderson, the owner of the coffee shop at 1201 Wayne Ave., opened his business on Nov. 14, 2011.

The Lumberjack latte from Ghostlight Coffee in Dayton offers all the familiar flavors of fall without relying on pumpkin. Instead, cinnamon and maple flavors take the forefront in this comforting, cozy drink.

He says Jimmie's, formerly Jimmie's Cornerstone Bar, relocated to 936 Brown St., an old firehouse, on Nov. 11, 2011.

Jimmie's and Ghostlight will celebrate with GhostLadder5, a celebration of five years with a five-course meal from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 in the Party Loft at Jimmie's Ladder 11. Tickets are $40.

Anderson said there was a surge of locally-owned, independent businesses five years ago, and the community rallied around them.

He expected that his neighbors in the South Park neighborhood would embrace his business as a neighborhood coffee shop, but got so much more.

"Little did I know the whole city would consider my little coffee shop their neighborhood coffee shop," he said.

'Supernatural' star Misha Collins drew hundreds to Ghostlight for a election stop in support of Hillary Clinton.

A line of Gilmore Girl fans recently wrapped around Ghostlight as part of a promotion for the TV show.

Brett and Janelle Barker opened Press Coffee Shop at 257 Wayne Ave. in Dayton's Oregon District little more than 5 and 1/2 years ago.

Clash Dayton opened in August of 2011 on Third Street and moved to its current location, 521 E 5th St. about a year later.

Roost Modern Italian at 524 E. Fifth St.  in the Oregon District will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a special open-house-style wine-and-food event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Something for those coffee fans: PRESS, the decidedly-independent coffee shop 257 Wayne Ave. in Dayton’s Oregon District, launched Wood Burl Coffee in October 2013 and sales it for retail.
