Because of it’s popularity, she said, “It’s hard to get in anywhere” and there’s enough Pilates world to accommodate a second dedicated studio in the city.
When derBoghossian opens 1111 Pilates at the complex at 316 Main St., she’ll offer times as early at 5 a.m., and evening classes, too. Her staff of instructors, which would include herself once she completes certification, will have between 5 and 7.
Pilates is a type of exercise where practitioners perform a series of flowing, controlled movements. It works the entire body, targeting core muscle groups which builds strength and flexibility.
“It makes a difference in your overall health and your strength,” she said, who began Pilates 10 years ago because of a back injury. “I’m really looking for anyone just to improve their strength, their flexibility and their overall health.”
Long-term, derBoghossian would like to work with local high school athletes.
derBoghossian is in the process of being a trained instructor in the growing wellness industry, and plans to hire five to seven instructors.
The price structure and full hours of operations are still being developed, but classes will be in the area range from $25 to $35 an hour. She’ll also have a smart Pilates machine, which has preloaded classes, so for a yet-to-be-determined fee, a client can come in at their convenience to use it.
derBoghossian, whose experience has been in the corporate world, chose to open her business in Hamilton because of its growth. Rossville Flats has two retail locations on its first floor, and 1111 Pilates will on the west side of the building, directly across from Agave and Rye.
“I have a corporate background and I’m not from Ohio originally, and the most incredible thing is seeing the growth in Hamilton, and working with the (Greater Hamilton) Chamber (of Commerce),” she said. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
At a recent Main Street Merchant Association meeting, she said there were people sitting around the same table with similar services “and it’s not about competing or competition. It’s truly about best practices and ways to lift each other up. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
And she’s talking with businesses to potentially selling products inside 1111 Pilates, and exploring potential partnerships and collaborations, including Terra Luna.
