From Aug. 4 to Aug. 10, participants receive a different social change campaign created by a DoSomething.org member — a young person between the ages of 13-25. The day’s challenge goes straight to their cell phone or can be seen on the DoSomething.org website.
Alanna’s special project, slated for Day 3 of The Hunt, can’t be revealed until Wednesday, Aug. 6. Her idea will reach more than 50,000 young people.
“This is the first time DoSomething.org has opened its platform to let young people create their own campaigns,” explains the organization’s Colleen Wormsley. “Alanna was selected as one of seven finalists out of hundreds of campaign idea submissions.”
DoSomething.org is the largest not-for-profit organization for young people and social change and has over 2.6 million members who take action on different causes. Alanna received a $500 grant for her campaign; to participate you can visit dosomething.org/hunt or text HUNT to 38383.
“We were excited to scale Alanna’s idea to reach thousands of young people nationwide through The Hunt,” says Wormsley. Alanna is incredibly passionate about helping children in hospitals, she adds.
Alanna’s well-known Polished Girlz project — now a national undertaking — uses volunteers to paint the fingernails of hospitalized girls and women.
