Previously in the season, after Cates’ blind audition that landed her a spot on Team Kelly, she sang against teammate Delaney Silvernell. After singing a duet of “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding, Clarkson declared Cates the winner.

Cates is a 17-year-old from Mason and senior at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. She lived in Centerville up through the eighth-grade and is an alumni from Town Hall Theatre in Washington Township.

In her ‘Voice’ debut, Cates sang “Scars to Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara.
According to NBCUniversal, Cates has been singing and performing as long as she can remember. She started choir in kindergarten and joined theater in the second grade. She is currently a worship leader in her school and enjoys making music a part of her life any way that she can. When she isn’t working on music, she performs as princess characters at birthday parties.

Cates is no stranger to the stage, as she was a finalist in 2013 for the Schuster Center’s “So You Think You Can Play The Schuster” contest. She appeared in Town Hall productions as well.
