What the business does: Club K-9 is a 12,000 square-foot facility that that provides a safe and educational environment for dogs. All canines are required to complete a health and behavior evaluation before being accepted into the program. Pet owners can select half-day, or full-day supervised play dates. Large and small dogs are separated for safety, but all have access to the play equipment, puppy swimming pool, misting system and toddler beds until they get picked up at the end of the day. More than 70 dogs attend on a daily basis. Webcams allow owners to go to www.clubk-9doggydaycare.com and view their pets.
What makes the business stand out: "One of the things we are most proud of at Club K-9 is the level of education and training that our staff receives which enables us to keep our dogs both physically and emotionally safe. Every dog we take care of is someone's "furry kid" and we take that responsibility very seriously," said Christina Massie, who co-owns the Doggie Day Care with her husband, Matt.
How the business started: In 1995, Christina began dating Matt Massie. Christina Massie began the law enforcement program at Sinclair Community College with the intent of working with the K-9 unit, but a part-time pet-sitting position changed her goals. In 2004, the couple wed and opened the business. Matt Massie works full-time in Career Services for Sinclair Community College and part time at the Doggie Day Care.
Customer comment: "Our dogs love Club K-9 Doggy Daycare; they can play all day and hang out, and they are tired at the end of the day just like we are," said Theresa Kraus, of Lebanon. "I don't think people realize how nice it is to have tired dogs when they have an active dog and a busy life!"
