The grounds of Polen Farm, located at 5099 Bigger Rd. in Kettering, are decorated for the holidays. Serving as an event venue owned and operated by the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, the house and barn were built in 1854 by Joseph Bigger as White Oak Farm. In 1940, the property was sold to Russell V. Polen, a General Motors executive and close associate of Charles F. Kettering. The City of Kettering assumed ownership upon Polen’s death in 1979. An extensive renovation project on the farm’s buildings was completed in 1996. TOM GILLIAM / CONTRIBUTING PHOTOGRAPHER
