Rebuilding Together Dayton
Mission: Build community partnerships and provide home rehabilitation for low-income Dayton homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, so they can live in warmth, safety and independence.
Who are we: Rebuilding Together is the nation's leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. Our network of nearly 200 affiliates provides free rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes of low-income Americans. Rebuilding Together Dayton was founded in 1996. Since its inception, Rebuilding Together Dayton has been able to make a huge impact in the community thanks to our sponsors and volunteers. We will be celebrating our 20th National Rebuilding Day on April 25, 2015.
Impact on our community: We are providing home repairs to low-income, elderly and/or disabled homeowners living in the City of Dayton and Montgomery County, with a preference to those in their homes for a minimum of 10 years. We are also providing urgently needed safety updates, such as wheelchair ramps, grab bars, and hand-rails, by skilled trades-people. We also work with volunteer groups throughout the year to complete small maintenance projects for low-income homeowners. All of these programs are completed for no cost for the homeowner.
About our new program: A safe and healthy home for every person is our vision. We are currently initiating a new program that gets volunteers involved year round to help us work toward our vision. We will be hosting safe and healthy home maintenance volunteer trainings to help teach the principles of a safe and healthy home. The volunteers will learn of the importance ensuring gutters and downspouts lead water away from the home to protect the foundation, the importance and proper installation of smoke and CO detectors, and numerous other home maintenance issues and the best way to correct them. As the volunteers learn these skills they will be able to put them to the test to assist our homeowners. Visit our website at rtdayton.org for the next training session. A gift card of $50 can obtain the basics to remediate common safe and healthy issues.
