Local health care ministry hosts cancer awareness training

The Dry Eyes of Innocence is a local health care ministry led by the Rev. Darryl Radford of Omega Baptist Church. On Saturday, Aug. 22, the organization is hosting Our Journey of Hope, a cancer awareness training program conducted by officials from the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA).

“The program teaches individuals how to support cancer patients and their families,” said Radford who last year walked from Dayton to Chicago to drive home his commitment to health care. “There are more than 200 types of cancer. And the truth, is no one knows how to deal with them.”

The CTCA sponsors ministry and outreach programs and provides critical training to ministers, community groups and congregations. The Rev. Percy McCray is the featured speaker.”

McCray is the director of pastoral care for CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Ill.

The training session will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Omega Baptist Church, 1821 Emerson Ave. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Our Journey of Hope is free and open to the community. For more information call (937) 367-7767.

“This is not a town hall meeting on the state of health care in this country. But we all need health care,” Radford said. “Some terminal illnesses and cancers aren’t being covered. I think we need a generalized system that will cover everyone.”
