Launched by American Express in 2010 and sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday puts locally-owned, small retailers in the limelight.

Several special events are planned.
A group of business on Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek will have a Small Business Saturday scavenger hunt featuring prizes.
Businesses in the Oregon Business District will offer tote bags, stickers, gifts and food. Stamp cards will be available at participating retailers, for entry to win one of four weekly drawings for $200, or the grand prize of a $1,000 shopping spree on New Year's Eve.

There will be live entertainment inside shops and roving throughout the city.
Dayton businesswoman Paula Willis says small businesses can offer that personal, one-on-one customer service the bigger guys often cannot.
"I hope it draws attention for consumers to shop locally and give small businesses another look," Willis said.
She and her daughter, Alleah Cooks, have operated Now and Zen Terrariums in the 2nd Street Market, 600 E. Second St., for two and a half years.
The company will offer free air plant fertilizer with any purchase of $10.
Kelly Sexton, the director of programs and education at K12 & Tejas, said the gallery at 341 S Jefferson St. will feature gift bags and paint buckets containing gift cards, paint supplies and other goodies, mosaic lanterns and other handmade gifts in its gift shop.
The downtown gallery will be open for Saturday art classes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"If people are shopping local, it supports our community as a whole," Sexton said.

The retail windows are all decorated in downtown Troy where Shelly Calvert, Troy Main Street's marketing and events coordinator, said nearly all shops are participating in Small Business Sunday.
The winner of the windows decoration contest will be announced during the Troy's Grand Illumination Friday.
Ann-Lisa Allen, president of the Kettering Moraine Oakwood Chamber of Commerce, said businesses throughout those communities are participating in the day, particularly those in downtown Oakwood and Town and Country Shopping Center.

The chamber reminded business owners to engage with shoppers and encouraged its non-retail members to shop locally.
