Winery to host grand re-opening under new owners

Kinkead Ridge Winery will host a grand re-opening this Labor Day weekend and is launching its new label, Lowell Marie, as the winery transitions under its new ownership.

Don and Anna Marie Bowers purchased the winery at 904 Hamburg St. in Ripley from founders Ron Barrett and Nancy Bentley earlier this year. The weather of the past two years have severely damaged the 13-year-old winery’s vineyards, however. The new owners have brought in grapes from California and Washington vineyards and are now offering varietals under its new Lowell Marie brand, including 2014 Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, Roussanne/Viognier and Merlot, Anna Marie Bowers said.

Also available for tasting this weekend are River Village Cellars Traminette and Chambourcin.

The Kinkead Ridge Estate wines, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, produced before the vineyards were damaged, are scheduled to be released in mid-November in time for Thanksgiving, Bowers said.

Kinkead Ridge Winery will be open on today, Saturday Sept. 5, and Monday on Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and going forward, will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
