A woman who died following a house fire Monday evening in Dayton has been identified.

Sharon Chenoweth was pronounced dead in the 200 block of Grove Avenue, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

It was the second fatal fire reported in Dayton this year.

Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dayton firefighters were called to a structure fire with a person possibly trapped on Grove Avenue in Old North Dayton.

Firefighters arrived within four minutes and found heavy fire on both floors of a two-story house.

Crews rescued two people from the roof, said Dayton Fire Department Assistant Chief Brad French. The pair were transported to the hospital for an evaluation.

Firefighters tried to search the inside of the house but had to evacuate due to the risk of a structural collapse, French said. They continued to battle the fire from outside the house.

A third resident, Chenoweth, was later found by crews and pronounced dead.

The house was a total loss, and an emergency demolition was completed.

A 34-year-old man died in a fire Saturday morning on Riverview Terrace, just west of the Salem-Riverview intersection, in Dayton.

Firefighters rescued a man in critical condition from a three-story apartment building and medics transported him to the hospital. Dwayne Harbour Jr. died at Miami Valley Hospital, according to Harshbarger.

Two other people escaped from the apartment fire before firefighters arrived. They were also taken to the hospital.

Both fires remain under investigation.
