A 2-week-old girl was found safe Wednesday night and her mother has been taken into custody.

An Amber Alert was issued for the baby, whose name was not released, because she was believed to be in danger. The infant was with her mother, a known drug addict, the Mansfield Police Department said.

The child’s mother, identified as 38-year-old Mandy A. Jaynes, was found with the baby around 8:30 p.m. in the area of Interstate 71 and U.S. 30 near Mansfield.

Mansfield police said Jaynes did not abduct the baby, who is 10 days old, but that the baby was possibly in need of urgent medical attention because she was born at Jaynes’ residence and had never had any medical assessments or care.

The baby is now in the custody of Richland County Children Services.

It is not clear whether Jaynes will be charged.
