No suspicious or dangerous items were found inside a suspicious package left near a Piqua bar Thursday.

According to Miami County Dispatch, the package was reported around 10:30 p.m. at One More bar, 348 Wood St.

The owner reported a vehicle had pulled up and placed an ammo can on the ground near a telephone pole before leaving, according to a Piqua Police Department incident report.

Police arrived and found the green, metal ammo can. Officers noted didn’t have any visible leaks, smoke or wires coming from it.

Because officers couldn’t verify the source of the can, police shut down streets in the area to create a safety perimeter and evacuated the bar. Residents in the area were advised to evacuate or shelter in place.

The Dayton Bomb Squad arrived and used a portable x-ray device to scan the can. The image scan and a physicals exam confirmed the can had multiple boxes of shotgun shells inside, according to the report.

No dangers or suspicious items were located. Police seized the ammo can as evidence. The roads were reopened and residents were advised it was safe to go home.

It is still unclear who left the ammo can or what vehicle was involved.

We will continue update this story with any new information.
