“I kind of think that a lot of people aren’t really going out right now for a number of reasons,” said Owner Amy Beaver. “I know a lot times in January, a lot people are on budgets.”
Because of this she wants to bring people together and encourage them to get out and socialize.
“Some people never have the opportunity to go out,” Beaver said.
In addition, this event is a way for her to give back and thank the community for supporting her over the last 15 years.
Before moving to Ohio and opening Butter Cafe, Beaver, who was born in northern Michigan, was living in the Hilton Head, SC and the Savannah, GA area.
This dinner will not have a price tag. Guests are encouraged to pay what they can.
“If you have $1, you have $1. If you have a nickel, you have a nickel,” Beaver said. “If you have $30, you can pay it forward for someone else.”
Beaver plans to cook the meal and rely on a team of volunteers to help serve. The dinner on Feb. 2 has plenty of volunteers, but she might need more in the upcoming weeks. Those interested should email, buttercafedayton@yahoo.com.
This is the first time Butter Café has hosted a pay what you can event.

Other specials happening at the restaurant during regular business hours include $1 pancakes with $1 toppings for a limited time.
Butter Café is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
