In Nov. 2022, Morgan announced that he had signed a three-year lease with Wright Dunbar, Inc. to bring a new restaurant to the Dayton neighborhood.
“I’m very passionate about food,” Morgan said. “I feel that I’m living in my purpose. I was meant to do this. I love to cook. I love to feed people.”
Morgan’s features American fusion cuisine including anything from chicken wings and beef, chicken or salmon Philly’s to Cajun shrimp and sausage alfredo, bourbon glazed salmon and much more.
“I like to do a lot of creole style food,” Morgan said. “I really love Asian-style food, so I do a little bit of everything.”
Customer favorites include salads served with made-from-scratch dressings such as pesto ranch, a soul food turkey leg featuring a braised turkey leg with collard greens, macaroni and cheese, smoked turkey gravy and sweet potato cornbread, gumbo and tacos.
Morgan comes from a large family that loves to cook, but it wasn’t until he was 26 that he decided to attend culinary school.
“One day I saw a commercial about culinary school,” Morgan said. “I inquired and I haven’t looked back since.”
Upon graduation, the Dayton native worked as the sous chef at Taste Creative Cuisine in Trotwood and worked his way up to the executive chef. He also worked as the executive chef at Mojo’s in Troy and as a dining supervisor at the University of Dayton.
He recalled his friend, Tae Winston, encouraging him to quit his job and become an entrepreneur.
“It took me awhile to really take that in and go ahead and take that leap of faith and make that happen, but I did it and this is where we’re at now,” Morgan said.
He started Morgan’s by operating out of The Entrepreneur’s Marketplace before opening a food trailer.
Over the years, he’s created quite a demand for certain items because they could only be offered on certain days due to prep and limited space on the trailer.
The restaurant will be different. Morgan plans to have a lunch menu and a dinner menu with six to eight entrees that will change quarterly. Weekly specials will be available as well.
“I’m looking forward to feeding the community — giving them a place where they can come and dine-in and have some really good food,“ Morgan said. ”A lot of people feel they need to travel to Cincinnati and Columbus for a nice dinner, I want to offer that right here in the Wright-Dunbar District.”
