The state reported 6,808 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, along with 59 more deaths and 165 new hospitalizations. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Ohio Department of Health has reported 721,481 cases.

Yesterday, the state passed 9,000 total deaths from coronavirus. Since March, 9,076 people have died of coronavirus, ODH reported.

Currently, 4,237 people are hospitalized in Ohio with COVID-19, about one in four people. In southwest Ohio, 1,188 people are hospitalized, the Ohio Hospital Association reported.

The news of a coronavirus vaccination brought a sigh of relief to many in 2020, but health professionals said some dark days are still ahead with, deaths, hospitalizations and cases still high.

In 2020, 8,962 Ohioans died from COVID-19 and that preliminary count will likely change as lagging data is reported, according to the Ohio Health Department. The number of deaths in the past two months has been staggering with 3,230 lives lost since Nov. 1.
