“I may not be up on the 11th floor, but I won’t be far,” Lieberman said. “I’m excited to be working with the community.”

The Dayton Daily News has contacted Foley’s office for details about the position, including its pay and responsibilities.

Lieberman was first elected to the commission in 2004. In November, the Democratic commissioner narrowly lost her race against Republican challenger and former Trotwood mayor Mary McDonald.

Lieberman told the Dayton Daily News that the job is centered on community connections. This includes expanding events like the monthly “Connecting with the Community” sessions ― a clerk’s office event series ― at locations around the county.

“The thought is to grow that a little bit,” she said. “I’m excited to be able to do the things I love doing.”

Lieberman said she also wants to boost outreach efforts for people reentering society after incarceration in her clerk’s office position.

Republican Clerk of Courts Foley was reelected to his seat this November, defeating Democratic challenger Lynn Cooper.

Foley this summer pleaded not guilty to charges related to theft in office and other counts. He has maintained his innocence throughout the Ohio Auditor of State Special Investigations Unit investigation of his office.

When asked about the charges against Foley, Lieberman said she believes people are innocent until proven guilty. She also said it was encouraging to see that a Supreme Court committee ruled in favor of Foley maintaining his office after state investigators called for his removal.

Lieberman isn’t the only county elected official recently hired to a local government post after losing reelection. Montgomery County Recorder Stacey Benson-Taylor was hired by Dayton Public Schools as an assistant business manager with a salary of $105,000.

In addition to the clerk’s office job, Lieberman said she will be busy in the coming months also serving on an assortment of local boards and other groups, including partnerships geared toward infant vitality or reentry.
