An outdoor fire apparently spread to a nearby barn Thursday after it was carried by wind in Riverside.

The wooden structure was engulfed when crews arrived after they were called around noon to the 3700 block of Old Troy Pike, which had to be shut down temporarily to make room for fire trucks.

The barn, which was vacant, burned to the ground.

Water reaching the site about 100 yards from the road was an issue, and tanker trucks from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base responded, along with Riverside and Dayton fire departments.

No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reported that it was breezy with southwest winds between 15 and 23 mph, with gusts of 40 mph possible.
