Crews recovered the body of a teenager who reportedly went underwater Sunday evening at Madison Lakes in Trotwood but didn’t resurface.

Trotwood Fire Department Deputy Chief Chad McInturff confirmed the 17-year-old boy’s body was recovered around 10:15 a.m. Monday after the search resumed earlier that morning.

The teen’s identity has not been released.

Trotwood police and fire crews arrived at the Olive Road lake around 5 p.m. Sunday for a water rescue. They searched Madison Lakes until approximately 10 p.m., McInturff said.

A person who called 911 around 4:45 p.m. reported that someone jumped into the lake but hadn’t come back up, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center records. It had been approximately seven minutes since he was seen, the caller said.

The teen was at the lake with friends and jumped off a cliff and into the water, according to dispatch logs.

While crews initially responded on a water rescue, the incident later was updated to a recovery effort.

Crews on Monday morning returned with additional help from outside agencies, according to the police department.

Swimming is not permitted at Madison Lakes, McInturff said.

“This lake appears very inviting but there are ‘No Swimming’ signs posted throughout the park and surrounding the lake,” read a statement from the police department. “The water is very dangerous with large amounts of vegetation and undercurrents that you cannot see from the surface.”
