Avion Terrell Chatman, who was almost 2, was playing on a toy truck in the driveway when he was struck around 4:20 p.m. Nov. 10, 2021, when Parham was backing a 2006 Buick Lucerne out of a driveway in the 4500 block of Bluehaven Drive, according to a Dayton Police Department crash report. The boy was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he died four days later. Both lived at the house where the child was struck in the driveway, the report indicated.
Parham pleaded guilty Aug. 25 to reckless homicide via a bill of information and also pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a misdemeanor. As part of his plea, two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide and a misdemeanor count of OVI were dismissed, court records show.
If he violates the terms of the sentence, he faces a three-year prison term, Flannagan said.
