A Greenville man died Thursday morning after a dump truck bed hit an overpass on Interstate 70 in Clay Twp.

Carson McKee, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded around 2:20 a.m. to I-70 East at the state Route 49 overpass.

A preliminary investigation revealed McKee was driving a commercial dump truck east on I-70 when he failed to lower the dump bed and hit the state Route 49 overpass, according to OSHP.

Sgt. Mark Murray said McKee had delivered asphalt for paving work in the area and was driving away when the crash happened.

The dump truck overturned, ejecting McKee from the vehicle.

I-70 East was closed until 6:50 a.m. as crews investigated the crash. The left lane then reopened while road crews resumed paving work in the right lane.

All eastbound lanes have since reopened.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, Clay Twp. police, Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, Brookville Fire and EMS and Sandy’s Towing assisted troopers at the scene.

OSHP is continuing to investigate the crash.
