Driver killed in Harrison Twp. crash who hit a pole ID’d

A man who died after hitting a pole Saturday in Harrison Twp. has been identified.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the man Tuesday as 76-year-old Merten Davis from Dayton.

Deputies were dispatched around 8:55 a.m. Saturday on reports of an injury crash on Needmore Road at Wadsworth Road, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

A Subaru Outback was headed west on Needmore Road when east of Wadsworth Road the vehicle went left of center, entered the eastbound lanes and hit a utility pole, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and died at Miami Valley Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
