Service restored to most after Hurricane Helene remnants knock out power to thousands

Power has been restored to most after tens of thousands of people lost service after the remnants of Hurricane Helene brought damaging winds to the Miami Valley Friday.

As of 9:08 a.m. Thursday, AES Ohio had 196 customers without power, including 101 in Montgomery County.

Strong winds downed tree limbs and power lines Friday afternoon and evening, with gusts reaching as high as 62 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. At one point as many as 136,000 AES Ohio customers didn’t have service.

AES Ohio is reporting the following outages as of 9:08 a.m. Thursday:

  • Greene County: 50
  • Montgomery County: 101
  • Warren County: 18
