A man is in custody after a 911 call reporting a woman’s boyfriend was burning her clothes sent firefighters and deputies to an apartment fire in Harrison Twp.

Around 3:41 a.m. a woman told 911 dispatchers her boyfriend sent her pictures of him setting her clothes on fire, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records.

The woman said he was inside the apartment. She was not home and couldn’t tell dispatch if the fire was spreading.

Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4100 block of Camargo Drive, at the Meadows of Catalpa apartments, and noticed smoke coming from the roof an apartment building and a faint burning smell.

When deputies entered the apartment building smoke was coming from the suspected unit, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies notified dispatch and began evacuating the building.

Everybody evacuated before firefighters arrived, according to the Harrison Twp. Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

Deputies arrested the suspect and booked him into the Montgomery County Jail on a preliminary aggravated arson charge.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to help the fire department investigate.

The Red Cross and Dayton RTA are helping approximately 24 residents who were displaced by the fire.
