Golf star Bryson DeChambeau came to Kettering for wrist surgery

PGA Tour mainstay, former U.S. Open champ publicly thanks doctor, Kettering Health

A Kettering Health doctor performed surgery Thursday on PGA Tour star Bryson DeChambeau, the pro golfer said on social media.

Left wrist surgery by Dr. Thomas Graham was successful, the 2020 U.S. Open champion said on Instagram and Twitter on Thursday evening.

“The surgery was performed by world renowned Hand Surgeon Dr. Thomas Graham,” said DeChambeau’s post, accompanied by a photo of him in a hospital room. “I want to thank Dr. Graham and the incredible staff and The Kettering Medical Center in Ohio.”

DeChambeau, ranked 19th in the Official World Golf Ranking, said he will take “appropriate time needed to rest and recover from this procedure and look forward to competing at the highest level within the next two months.”

Graham has served as the hand surgery consultant, team physician or medical director for the PGA Tour and numerous teams in the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA, according to Kettering Health.

Before coming to Kettering Health, he served as Cleveland Clinic’s first chief innovation officer.

Graham and others have been monitoring the fracture to the hamate bone in DeChambeau’s left wrist, the golfer said.

“I made attempts to play through this injury at three recent events, including the Masters, but this is typically an injury that requires surgical treatment,” he said on Instagram.

“Through continued discomfort from the fracture, it has caused me to alter my grip and swing, resulting in my inability to compete at golf’s highest level. This has not been easy physically and mentally for me,” DeChambeau said.
