The $900 billion package Congress passed a week ago and signed Sunday night by President Donald Trump calls for $600 to adults with incomes up to $75,000 and couples making $150,000 per year, plus another $600 for each child. Those earning more than $75,000 also can receive stimulus money on a sliding scale based on qualifications.
Trump at the last minute pushed for $2,000 checks, and when Democrats tried to change the amounts, Republicans in Congress balked.
However, the House voted overwhelmingly Monday to increase the COVID-19 relief checks to $2,000, meeting Trump’s demand for bigger payments. The Senate GOP on Tuesday blocked the attempt to pass the larger stimulus checks, so they will remain at $600 for most Americans.
