The “KPD wants to ensure the public that this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence,” Kettering police said. “KPD will be increasing patrols in the area while this is fully investigated.”
Police said no injuries were reported were reported at the building, which is at the corner of Renwood and East David Road, across the street from Alter High School. No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made, according to police.
A 911 call was received by police at 9:33 p.m. More than 15 officers responded, according to the police report.
Police were informed that “a white or silver car ‘flew down’ Malone Avenue” toward Renwood. The vehicle was stopped at the stop sign, turned right onto Renwood toward David “then approximately five gunshots were heard coming from the vehicle,” police records state.
One officer “observed multiple shell casings in the roadway,” and Renwood was closed from David to Malone, “securing the scene around the shell casings.”
An officer also saw one bullet hole in a window at 4432 Renwood, “multiple bullet holes into the brick side of the home” and a bullet hole in the second-story window at 4440 Renwood.
Witnesses told authorities that shots were fired twice, with one witness saying there were 10 minutes between the two sets of shots, and other witnesses saying it was only a few minutes, according to the police report.
Kettering police made contact with more than five occupants of the Renwood addresses, as well as at least three neighbors, the police report states.
Police said they believe 9-millimeter and .223 ammunition was used in the shooting.
Kettering police said detectives are actively pursuing all leads and they ask that people with any information on this incident should contact Detective Paulin at 937-296-3227.
