One firefighter suffering from heat exhaustion after battling a Friday morning house fire in Dayton was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

When crews arrived sometime after 10 a.m. to the 30 block of Victor Avenue, just off North Main Street, the house was “fully involved” and had spread to a second house, said Capt. Tyler McCoy of the Dayton Fire Department.

“We were able to conduct a primary search of the main fire building and the (second house), and at this time, there are no civilian victims, any animals killed,” he said.

Flames were visible, and billowing smoke from the fire could be seen in downtown Dayton. The yard was full of debris, such as furniture, propane cylinders and other items crews pulled out of the house.

There reportedly was an illegal electrical cable that provided power, but McCoy said it was not clear whether anyone was living in the house, nor what started the fire.

“We’re conducting a thorough investigation into the cause,” McCoy said.
