Man killed in downtown Dayton shooting ID’d

A 51-year-old Dayton man was fatally shot early Tuesday in downtown Dayton.

The gunshot victim was identified as Robert Blackstone by Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger. He was pronounced dead at 12:37 a.m. in the 110 block of South Main St.

He was shot in the upper right side of his chest, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center records.

Police were in the area when they heard the shooting at approximately 12:28 a.m., said Lt. Steven Bauer of the Dayton Police Department.

“The officer immediately went towards the direction of the threat and observed that the victim had just been injured. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene,” Bauer said.
