Miami Twp. aims to “increase awareness and excitement” about its 200th birthday a few years early with a Bicentennial Logo Contest that will net the winner $500.

From Jan. 13 through Feb. 21, the township will accept original designs for a logo that will be used on all community’s materials ahead of the Dec. 9, 2029 bicentennial.

The contest is designed to gain community and regional support for Miami Twp.’s celebration, Miami Twp. said.

“By conducting this contest now, the township will make every effort to add the logo to all township public facing materials including news releases, newsletters, website, social media, and any other township materials, to increase awareness and excitement about the 200th birthday,” the township said in a list of contest rules.

Miami Twp. will celebrate its bicentennial on Dec. 9, 2029. It is holding a Bicentennial Logo Design Contest from Jan. 13 to Feb. 21.

Complete specifics are available at tinyurl.com/miamitwp200. The Miami Twp. Board of Trustees will announce the winning design March 18.

The logo contest also is part of how the township plans to involve the community in its plans for celebrations leading up to Dec. 9, 2029. Miami Twp. said it will conduct surveys to garner residents’ feedback and ideas and offer contests and events that tie into the grand celebration.

Contest questions and entries should be sent via email to contact@miamitownship.com, or call 937-433-9969 for more information.

Those submitting an entry should include a brief description of the design and its meaning. The winning logo will be used on all public materials through the bicentennial in December 2029.

The township got its start in 1829 with 40 square miles of land annexed from Washington Twp. It was originally east of the Great Miami River, but additional land was acquired from Van Buren Twp. and German Twp. west of the river between 1831 and 1841, according to “Images of America: Miami Township,” a publication written for the township’s 175th anniversary.
