The region’s first batch of 2025 babies arrived on New Year’s Day.

Coming a little later than expected, newborn Felicity Rose Pearson was the first baby born at Miami Valley Hospital this year.

Her parents, Leila Shaw and Michael Pearson, said welcoming their second child into the world was the perfect way to start 2025. Felicity was welcomed to the Dayton area around 2:06 a.m.

Felicity weighs 7 pounds and 13 ounces. She joins her big sister, 3-year-old Kimberly, who had been long anticipating her sibling’s arrival.

“All I heard the other day was, ‘When’s the baby coming? Is she here yet?’” Shaw said.

Shaw said she arrived at Miami Valley Hospital around 8:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. They were expecting her to arrive around Christmas, but Felicity “took her time,” Shaw said.

When asked how she was feeling Wednesday morning, the mother of two said she was tired and achy, but very happy.

“We’re very excited,” said Shaw. “It will be so exciting to see her little personality, what she’s like.”

Kimberly agreed.

“This is my baby,” she said, pointing at Felicity.
