300 without power after strong storms knock down trees, wires Friday

Over 300 households are without power this morning after strong thunderstorms left trees and wires down Friday afternoon and evening.

The first round of storms that rolled through Friday afternoon knocked out power to 3,385 utility customers, with the most in Montgomery County at 1,739 customers, followed by Butler County with 964 customers.

The afternoon storm prompted the National Weather Service in Wilmington to issue severe thunderstorm warnings for Butler, Clark, Greene, Montgomery and Warren counties.

There were 2,647 outages as of 7 p.m. Friday in Greene County, with service restored to all but 4 by 6:23 a.m. Saturday.

Power outages reported by AES Ohio, Duke Energy and Ohio Edison as of 11:08 p.m. for the area include:

Darke County: 195

Butler County: 58

Montgomery County: 52

Greene County: 4

Warren County: 5

Miami County 2

Preble County: 2

Champaign County: 1

The main threats associated with the thunderstorms were damaging winds and heavy rain that could lead to flooding.

There were several reports of trees and wires down made to the NWS, including:

  • Multiple trees down in Fairfield at 2 p.m.
  • A tree reported down near Brookside Drive in Dayton at 2:30 p.m.
  • Multiple power lines down and one tree down in Lebanon at 2:32 p.m.
  • A tree 8-inch diameter, 5 feet long tree was on Dotson Drive in Beavercreek at 2:38 p.m.,
  • Wind gusts of 59 mph were reported at the Lebanon Airport at 2:40 p.m.
  • Multiple power lines down and one tree down in Springboro at 2:40 p.m.
  • Multiple power lines down and one tree down in Waynesville at 2:43 p.m.
  • Flooding reported at Main Look Road and Hedgerow Road at Hueston Woods in Preble County at 11 p.m.
