“Following the union’s ratification vote, we are continuing to discuss open matters in good faith in order to have a fully approved new contract in place by our deadline of April 6, 2025,” Trent said.
Trent last week told this newspaper that an earlier contract between the company and the IUE-CWA (International Union of Electrical Workers/Communications Workers of America) in Dayton expired Jan. 6.
A Facebook commenter said the vote failed by a tally of 289-121. Trent and Danny Goins, an IUE-CWA staff member, confirmed that a tentative contract proposal was not ratified.
The union represents more than 750 members at the Mahle complex at 1600 Webster St.
“Currently, we are working under an extension per the terms of the contract and expect to get back to the table this week,” Goins said Monday.
Employees at the IUE-CWA Local 755 union hall on Heid Avenue Tuesday morning declined to comment.
German firm MAHLE GmbH took a majority ownership stake in the Behr Group, which owned the local plant, in 2013. The Dayton plant, once owned by Chrysler, has operated since the 1930s.
