The cause of death was not released. An autopsy has been performed and results on the cause of death are pending, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Oakwood Safety Director Alan Hill said in a statement, “Any investigation of the circumstances would be handled by the appropriate authorities in that jurisdiction.”
“Out of respect for PSO Schaffer, his family, and his fellow officers, the city of Oakwood has no further comment at this time,” Hill said.
Schaffer joined the Oakwood Public Safety Department in 2018, previously serving as a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and as a U.S. Marine, according to the city.
