“He was removed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” said Dayton police Lt. Jason Hall. “Dayton homicide detectives responded to the scene, and the initial investigation indicates that this homicide was the result of an argument that tragically escalated into gunfire.”
Detectives worked throughout the day to identity and locate the suspect.
Dwayne J. Jones Jr., 18, was arrested around 7 p.m. without incident, Hall said. He was taken into custody on Wood Dale Drive, according to Miami Valley Jail records.
“He is currently in the Montgomery County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder,” Hall said. “The facts and information developed during this investigation will be presented to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of formal charges.”
Formal charges had not been filed against Jones as of Monday afternoon.
“As always, we welcome the public’s help in all our investigations and anyone with any information is urged to contact Detective Woody at 937-333-1124 or Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP,” Hall said.
