‘Untimely squirrel’ causes outage in Miamisburg-Centerville area, crews working to restore power

An accident with an “untimely squirrel” left nearly 4,000 people near the Dayton Mall without power Sunday afternoon, an AES Ohio representative said. The AES Ohio representative said that safety mechanisms in the area prevented an explosion, but resulted in an outage.

The AES Ohio outage website reported around 3,620 outages at the peak of the reports. An AES Ohio representative said that around 400 outages are still active in the area,

Customers should expect another hour or two before power fully returns to the area as crews work to ensure the lines and substation are safe, the representative said.
