An 18-year-old from Indianapolis was identified Friday as the victim of a deadly Thursday afternoon crash on Interstate 70 that shut down the highway for hours.

Zachary Purvis was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash reported just before 4 p.m. around the 13-mile marker on I-70 West, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post.

Purvis was the passenger of a 2014 GMC Acadia driven by 22-year-old Dalton K. McCutcheon that struck the rear of a semi that had slowed in traffic.

McCutcheon had minor injuries but refused medical treatment, and the driver of the semi, Milton C. Roberts, 51, of Gastonia, North Carolina, was not injured.

The deadly crash was one of incidents Thursday afternoon that temporarily shut down part of I-70 West.

A semi truck hauling mulch caught fire around 2:30 p.m. Parts of the median also were burned as well as the semi, but no injuries were reported.
