Payroll Project: Englewood’s highest paid employees

The city of Englewood paid 20 employees more than $100,000 each in 2023, according to the Payroll Project, an annual reporting project from the Dayton Daily News.

The police department had nine employees who earned six figures, more than any other department.

The highest paid Englewood employee was the city manager, Eric Smith, who was paid $192,319 in 2023.

The voting and taxpaying public is the employer for government agencies. As with any other employer, the public has not just a right but a responsibility to know how much its employees are paid in the interest of good stewardship.

6. Della Stearns, director of finance: $119,063

7. Travis Shoemaker, police officer: $118,495

8. Andrew Bronsord, probationary police sergeant: $113,803

9. Matthew Fahncke, firefighter/paramedic lieutenant: $111,317

10. Jordan Schoening, firefighter/paramedic lieutenant: $110,890
