A 1-year-old boy whose death is under investigation by Dayton police has been identified.

Braxton Trollinger was pronounced dead Friday afternoon at a Darst Avenue apartment, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

The boy’s cause and manner of death have not been determined.

According to Dayton police, officers responded around 4 p.m. Friday to a report of a person down in the 1600 block of Darst Avenue, near Smithville Road and Huffman Avenue in East Dayton.

A man called 911 and told dispatchers his son wasn’t breathing, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records.

The man said he was picking his son up from his cousin’s neighbor and noticed something was different.

“He wasn’t talking; he wasn’t moving; he wasn’t doing nothing,” he said. “So I stopped the car and I tried to do CPR and he didn’t come back.”

The man reportedly drove back to the neighbor’s house but they had left.

He told dispatch his son’s eyes were open, but he wasn’t breathing, according to dispatch records. The father also said his son had bruises, but didn’t provide any additional information about the marks.

No one has been taken into custody in connection to the investigation at this time, police said Monday.
