One person was taken into custody Monday night after a man under arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team reportedly barricaded himself in a basement.

SOFAST responded to the first block of York Avenue to arrest a person, said Dayton police Maj. Christopher Malson. It’s not clear why he was wanted. According to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, law enforcement officers went to the house at about 5:10 p.m.

“The person did not comply with SOFAST and ran into the basement,” said Malson. “Due to his several circumstances including his violent history, Dayton SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team were called to assist.”

The man, whose name was not released, eventually surrendered and was handed over to SOFAST members.
