Police at one point Wednesday fired tear gas into the home and entered using a robot. Police also used a loudspeaker calling for a suspect to come outside. A search of the home determined the person sought was not inside.
Lexington Avenue was closed in the area until nearly 8 p.m. Thursday.
Dayton police detectives shot a man in his legs Wednesday in the 100 block of Lexington Avenue while investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old boy 90 minutes earlier in the 1200 block of Kumler Avenue in Dayton.
Police identified the man shot by detectives as Jarius Wood during a media briefing Thursday afternoon on the officer-involved shooting. Wood was shot in both legs, and police applied tourniquets before medics arrived. His injuries were not life-threatening, said Lt. Col. Matt Carper, deputy director and assistant police chief. The press conference began at 4 p.m. and was streamed live at facebook.com/cityofdayton.
Carper confirmed that the SWAT call out on Thursday in the 200 block of Lexington was in connection to the two shootings.
There, police could be heard calling for Jaydun Dewberry to come out. Carper said an arrest warrant on a felonious assault charge was issued for Dewberry. The 17-year-old gunshot victim identified him as the shooter during a 911 call.
