SWAT standoff ends after 10 hours in Dayton; 1 in custody

One person was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff that lasted about 10 hours ended early Wednesday morning in Dayton.

No injuries were reported, according to Dayton police.

Police and SWAT crews were called Tuesday afternoon to the area of South Hedges and East Third streets.

According to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, the response began at 4:18 p.m. as a mental health call.

Dispatch records said that a man who is known to police as having a history of mental health problems reportedly had gotten a gun.

It is unclear what happened to lead to SWAT being called, but Dayton police on social media asked the public to avoid the area.

The standoff ended around 2:30 a.m.

Chemical munitions were used during the standoff, but additional information was not released.
