A Wayne High School student was hit by a vehicle Friday afternoon in front of the high school.

Huber Heights dispatch said that a pedestrian was hit by a car around 4:30 p.m. on Chambersburg Road.

Huber Heights Schools Superintendent Jason Enix confirmed that the person struck was a male Wayne High School student and member of the marching band.

The student was taken to a local hospital, dispatchers said. The extent of his injuries is not known, however, a press release by the Huber Heights Police said on Saturday due to the severity of his injuries, the Huber Heights Accident Investigation team was called to the scene to investigate the crash.

“They did choose not to perform at our home football game,” Enix said of the school’s marching band.

Before the game, police said that people coming in would not be able to get to the school from Old Troy Pike, and would need to instead come from the Harshmanville Road side.

They also said that the road will be closed for “quite some time,” and asked other drivers to avoid the area, if possible.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
