Camden Somers Twp. Fire and EMS Department is asking for tips from the public about a series of fires at Deer Run Luxury Campground labeled arsons.

The department said since Sept. 13, they have investigated four arson fires and two additional fires at the campground located 337 Deer Run Drive outside of the village of Camden.

The first fire was reported at Buck Rub Cove around 5:44 p.m. on Sept. 13 when materials under a camper had been set on fire.

The fire department said “one was a complete loss and the other had minimal damage.”

Around 9:36 p.m. that same night two additional camper fires were reported on Antler Cove at Deer Run Luxury Camping Resort that also seriously injured a dog.

The fire department said one of the fires was considered “an exposure fire.”

Another fire was on Dec. 12, 2024 at Tim Drive. The cause of that fire has yet to be determined and is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire department said.

An additional fire was reported on Jan. 18, at Deer Run Drive, and the cause of this has yet to be determined as well.

“We assure the public that the State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation, and we urge anyone with information to come forward,” the fire department said. “Even the smallest detail could be crucial in solving this case and preventing future incidents.”

The fire department said each fire requires extensive resources from mutual aid partners and Camden Somers Twp. Fire and EMS Department. The demand for equipment, personnel and response efforts strains local resources and puts a burden on taxpayers while diverting critical resources from other emergencies.

“We need your cooperation to bring an end to these acts of arson. Each incident has significant financial, emotional and physical impacts on our community, as well as taxpayers’ resources. Solving these cases is vital for the safety of everyone,” the fire department said. “The State Fire Marshal’s Office has received little to no assistance in the numerous arson investigations. If you have any information, please contact the The State Fire Marshal’s Office (at 800-589-2728) or the Camden Somers Twp. Fire and EMS Department (at 937-452-1239) immediately.”
