Dayton Police are investigating a drive-by shooting at a Wednesday night birthday party that killed a 29-year-old Dayton woman.

Terri Taylor was killed and three others were shot at 2049 Catalpa Drive at around 10 p.m., Dayton Police Lt. Jason Hall said.

“The initial investigation revealed a group of approximately 30 people were attending a birthday celebration at the home, when unknown assailants opened fire from a vehicle traveling on Catalpa Drive. At this time, all indications are this was not a random act, and the assailants targeted this gathering,” Hall said.

Multiple rounds were fired from a gray Chrysler 300, described as having tinted windows and shiny wheels, initial reports said, and the suspect car fled south on Catalpa Drive.

Officers were alerted to the scene by both Shot Spotter technology and a 9-1-1 call.

In that 9-1-1 call obtained by the Dayton Daily News, a woman tells a dispatcher that multiple people were shot.

“Please get here,” the woman shouts.

The dispatcher tries to get more information, but the woman doesn’t respond to any questions.

“The investigation into identifying and apprehending those responsible for this senseless act is ongoing. We are asking for the community’s help,” Hall said. “If anyone has any information on this incident, please contact the Dayton Police Department at 937-333-COPS or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and can receive a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.”

The injuries of the three other people shot are not considered life-threatening, officials reported.
