Report: Intoxicated man with gun arrested following large police scene in Franklin

A large police presence was reported in Franklin early Wednesday after a man who was allegedly intoxicated and had a handgun kicked in a door and threatened his girlfriend.

At 12:55 a.m., Franklin police responded to the 100 block of Boulder Drive for a disturbance.

A caller reported a 24-year-old man was intoxicated and wouldn’t leave, according to police. The man kicked in the door and was in a bedroom, the caller added.

When officers arrived, they learned a handgun was also in the bedroom. Three adults and a child were evacuated from the apartment.

The man is not a resident, but is dating a tenant, according to police. He reportedly arrived at the apartment earlier and was drinking alcohol while he had a gun.

When he stepped outside, his girlfriend locked him out. The man kicked in the door and threatened to assault his girlfriend, police said.

He then locked himself in a bedroom.

Officers tried to get the man to surrender, but he refused. Because of the gun, the Warren County Tactical Response Unit was called. Crews also requested a search warrant.

The Warren County Tactical Response Unit entered the apartment and took the man into custody, according to police. The gun was recovered from the bedroom as well.

No injuries were reported. Warren County Child Protective Services responded to the scene due to a child being present.

The man was booked into the Warren County Jail on preliminary aggravated trespass, menacing, inducing panic, criminal damaging or endangering and using weapons while intoxicated charges.
