A 47-year-old Vandalia man was identified as the victim of a deadly rollover crash Wednesday night on the Dayton International Airport Access Road from Interstate 70.

The crash was reported at 8 p.m. north of I-70 after the two-door car overturned and landed in the median.

Steven Schoening was driving a 2008 Honda Accord west on I-70 and was exiting the highway onto Airport Access Road north when the car went off the left side of the road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The car hit a drainage culvert, causing it to overturn.

“It is a confirmed fatality,” Sgt. Charles Bower of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post said Wednesday night.

Schoening was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was the driver and car’s only occupant, Bower said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that speed was a factor in the crash, but other factors remain under investigation at this time.

Both ramps from I-70 to the Dayton International Airport were closed for nearly three hours as crews responded and investigated the crash.
