A Dayton Public Schools bus driver requested a new bus after running over debris from a crash on U.S. 35 East Tuesday morning in Dayton.

A crash was reported near Steve Whalen Boulevard around 6:50 a.m., according to Dayton police.

The bus ran over debris from a different single-vehicle crash, said Dayton police Sgt. Michael Beane.

“Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of the kids on the bus in mind, the driver pulled over and requested a new bus,” he added. “In a matter of minutes they were able to get everyone safely off the bus and onto a new bus.”

There were no injuries to anyone on the bus, according to Beane. However, the driver involved in the prior single-vehicle crash had minor injuries.

Montgomery County Regional Dispatch reported no one was transported to the hospital.

The Ohio Department of Transportation was also on scene assisting.

The lanes were initially closed for 20 minutes, Beane said. But they have since reopened, according to Ohio Department of Transportation traffic cameras.

The crash is under investigation.
