Winter storm: Chance for rain, snow tonight; Icy roads possible tonight

After early morning snow and rain showers, chances for another round of precipitation will increase tonight.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reported up to an additional inch of snow could fall in the region by 7 p.m.

As of 9 a.m., most communities were reporting about 2 inches of snow, with the Dayton International Airport and Union in Montgomery County reporting more than 4 inches, according to NWS.

While rain and precipitation chances will decrease in the afternoon, showers remain possible throughout the day and into the night. Light snow accumulation is possible as temperatures drop back below freezing.

High temperatures will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. Precipitation could lead to slick roads, so should motorists should drive with caution.

Winds will strengthen this afternoon, with gusts of 40 to 45 mph possible.

There is a chance of snow showers after 8 a.m. Thursday. Otherwise, it will be cloudy and cold with a high near 34 degrees.

Snow showers are possible Thursday night, mainly before 11 p.m. It will be cold and cloudy, with an overnight low around 25 degrees.

Friday will be cloudy and windy, with a high temperature near 36 degrees. There will be a chance of snow in the late afternoon, with a slight chance of snow showers Friday night that will mix with rain after 8 p.m. before gradually ending. Temperatures overnight will only fall a few degrees to around freezing.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy and warmer with a high near 40 degrees. However, rain returns overnight, which will have a low around 32 degrees.

Sunday will be rainy, mainly before 2 p.m., with a high near 39 degrees. A chance of rain and snow returns Sunday night, which will be colder with an overnight low around 22 degrees.

The first part of the new workweek with be colder, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
